The street begin to resemble a conflict zone, as pilgrim crowds scamper to salvage pieces of burning camphor, regarded as 'prasad,' consecrated remains of a religious ceremony, moments before god Koothandavar passes by upon a hand-drawn wooden cart in ceremonial procession. The flames generate a surprising amount of heat. A man (left) uses a burlap sack to douse the flames. |
