Technique alone doesn?t suffice, Soe Khaing confesses. Burma being isolated form the rest of the world, students have little opportunity to be exposed to international music, which was still banned in Burma but a few years ago. To increase his students? familiarity with other styles, Than Lwin not only invites foreign guest speakers to hold workshops in the school, but also sends the most talented students to Mahidol University, in Thailand. En 2007, the school?s choir even toured the US, and received a warm welcome. |
